Laos Culture

The culture of Laos is highly influenced by the Theravada Buddhism. Right from the language to the literature and the temples to art; everything has the influence of Theravada Buddhism. The culture of Laos goes way back to Buddhism, but on the contrary, the Laotian musical instrument called the Khaen, which is also the national instrument and a type pipe made of bamboo, has an origin to the pre-historic times when Theravada Buddhism never existed.
