Queen Cleopatra was the daughter of Alexander's general, Ptolemy I Soter, who was the son of Arsinoe and Lacus. This beautiful queen ruled Egypt along with her brothers, husband and father. She comes from among the greatest rulers of Egypt. Cleopatra was related to Gaius Julius Caesar. After his death, she joined forces with Mark Antony.
While Caesar was alive, he and Cleopatra had one child together. After Caeser's death, Queen Cleopatra had a relationship with Mark Anthony which saw them having three children. The children were named Cleopatra Selene II, Alexander Helios and Ptolemy Philadelphus.
According to historians, Queen Cleopatra also had incestual relationships with her brothers too. However, no children were born as a result. It must be pointed out that for the given period, this was not considered socially immoral.
The time when she came in power is known as the last stage of Hellenistic age. Her rule of Egypt is considered to be the start of the Roman rule in the region. Ancient Egypt had its last pharaoh in Queen Cleopatra.
The strangest fact about Queen Cleopatra is that in a total 300 years ruling time of her family, she was the only member who was able to understand and speak the Egyptian language prevalent at that point in the country.
Queen Cleopatra had captivated the world as she was considered to be a beautiful and intelligent ruler. Many books, stories and plays are based on her. Antony and Cleopatra written by William Shakespeare is one of the best examples.
