Ethiopia Culture
Ethiopia is one of the most beautiful and mysterious lands in Africa. Ethiopia has a culture that is more than 3000 years old. The country has many shades of culture like any other African country and this is mainly attributed to the intramarriages that have been taking place for a long time. |
The main distinction comes in the form of languages and more than 83 different types of languages are spoken in this country; the main ones being Semitic, Omotic, Nilo and Cushitic. Many of these languages have hundreds of dialects. The languages sound somewhat identical to Arab and Hebrew. The adaptation of language also extends to other cultural aspects such as the clothes they wear and the food they eat.
The food consists mainly of wheat, barley, maize and sorghum. The banana is made into porridge or unleavened bread which has become the staple diet of the people of Ethiopia. This is mainly for people who live in the agricultural areas. Whereas people, who live in the areas which have more water, depend on fish and other sea food.
The attire also differs in various parts of the country and has heavy influence of the language that they speak. The nomads in some part of the country barely wear clothes and wear heavy jewelry made out of clay on their lower lip and eyebrows. While others wear white cotton kaftans like Egyptians. Some also wear trousers and women wear warp around. Mostly clothes are made of light cotton to suit the climatic conditions.
