Hunger Statistic In Ethiopia
Ethiopia has been forever subject to violence, destruction and poverty causing strife in the living circumstances of the people. Also, it is highly prone to natural calamities like floods and droughts. People have already been suffering to put a stabilized economy in place after severe ethnic cleansing and caste-related war. |
Now the country is again under the effects of severe flood causing a severe shortage of food across the country.
The poverty level is above normal in this country and in every thousand people that die, more than 45 percent are children. Many children die due to severe malnutrition, hunger and lack of proper food. They are still battling diseases like malaria and cholera.
There was a severe food crisis in Ethiopia in 2005 and people are still suffering the aftermath. The food crisis at that time was caused due to severe drought and now flash floods are affecting millions of lives in this country. People are unable to procure food from other sources because of the costs and lack of money. Poverty has become a major strife for Ethiopia to overcome. Also, the hike in price of local food has caused the poverty levels to deteriorate.
The United Nations, with the help of organizations like Red Cross, has been trying to evacuate some flood stricken areas and provide better housing for people. Some thousands of people have died again during the flood and drought conditions. Several households have been trying to come out of the flood situation by seeking help from World Health Organization and other non-governmental charitable institutions.
