Kenya is rich with wildlife and attracts thousands of visitors form all over the world for the Big 5 and game reserves. The Big 5 categorizes all the five large animals namely lion, rhino, cheetah, elephant and the buffalo.
Some of the earliest evidence that date backs to more than 3 million years ago was found in Kenya. This evidence shows that man always lived on the African sub continent and possibility of the first human species evolving here is high. The fossil that was found here was named the Kenyan Man.
In spite of the high volume tourism, Kenya still is affected largely by corruption causing blockades in the growth of the common man. Also, the Kenyan national parks are prone to poaching of animals and the government is worried that it would mean end of tourism for them. Maintaining the ecological balance of Africa is of utmost importance from a global perspective.
The economy of Kenya is mainly dependant on tourism and they also have some small scale industries like fishing, oil, refineries, and coffee and tea plantations. In addition, the people of Kenya are also involved in some horticultural industries. Kenyan agriculture, however, is meant to cater to the local needs and they mainly cultivate wheat, barley, maize, corn and dairy products.
Most of Kenyans live in the middle region on the plains and very few live is the coastal areas of the country.
