Effect Of Poverty In Nigeria
There is a lot of poverty in Nigeria and this phenomenon is called mass poverty. The poverty is reflected everywhere in the form of lack of food, water supply, irrigation, agriculture, infrastructure and electricity. Nigerians do not have any material comforts at the end of the day and the per capita income of the country is one of the lowest in the world. |
Poverty can also be blamed on the lack of education, lack of skilled labor, lack of proper facilities. Some villages in Nigeria do not have drainage facilities and they are unheard of in these parts. This lack is causing several grave and deathly diseases amounting to a high death rate.
Poverty in Nigeria is seen at different levels and it has nothing to do with the budding tourism industry and the thousands of foreign tourist that visit the country each year.
The population of the country is nearly 140 million and most of these people are uneducated and unemployed. There are several reasons for the poverty to be so high in the country. One is inaccessibility due to the lack of infrastructure in many parts of the country. Even drinking water supply cannot be facilitated to several parts of the country. So Nigeria faces severe dearth of three main components that are food, water and housing. People live in unhealthy conditions, they are malnourished and also suffer from several water borne diseases.
Only when the Nigerian government finds a way out to solve the poverty will the overall condition improve for people.
