Where Is Burma ?
Burma is one of the biggest countries in terms of area in Southeast Asia. It is a vast region that is less developed. Most of Burma is open land covered with golden rocks. However, the country has a rich wealth of natural resources. But, nobody has access to these resources, including their own country men due to the dictatorship like government run by the military in Burma. |
Burma shares its border with China on the Northeastern side. On the eastern side is Laos and on the southeastern side is Thailand. Bangladesh flanks the western side of Burma, and India takes the northwestern side. The entire south and southwest is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. If you look at the map and draw connecting lines for all these countries without naming them, you will observe that a huge portion of the map formed like a hexagon is Burma. Nearly one third of the border of Burma has a continuous coastline.
Burma has a rich and diverse culture. There are many ethnic groups that have originated in Burma and also some that have originated from the neighboring regions. People follow various religions like Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. Nearly eighty percent of the populations are Bamars, which means traditional Burmese.
However, Burma has been stricken with ethnic and religious problems. There was a lot of communal discord and the government clearly favored only certain Burmese ethnic groups. Some thousands of people who were from non Burmese ethnic groups were displaced across borders into other countries like Bangladesh.
