- You need to obtain a visa for entering the country, unless you are a citizen of Singapore, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines or Malaysia. There are two types of visas that you can obtain -- a travel visa or a business visa.
- The official language here is Khmer. French is also spoken and English is fast becoming popular with the younger crowd.
- All business establishments here accept major credit cards. Though traveler’s checks are accepted, it is not so everywhere. US dollars are accepted in most places. When you travel to places close to the Thai border, the Thai Baht is accepted.
- Flights arriving here land at Phnom Penh International Airport or at the Siem Reap International Airport. At both airports a departure tax of $25 is levied for adults and $13 for children under the age of twelve.
- The country’s climate is tropical. Average temperature is around 27.C (80.F). The rainy season starts in June and ends in December. Ideal time to visit is between November and February as the climate is cool and there are no rains.
- Normal electricity voltage is 240 volts AC, 50Hz. Ensure to bring electrical appliance that coordinate with this voltage requirement, else bring a converter. The electrical outlets here are the three flat-pronged plug types.
