How Many Islands Does Indonesia Have ?
Indonesia has 17,508 islands out of which 11,508 remain uninhabited. The islands are archipelagic in nature and have active volcanoes too. Extending from the Malay Peninsula in the west to Melanesia in the east, there are islands that are submerged periodically depending on the tides. |
After the earthquake in September 2007, a group of 6 small new islands were produced and uplifted the others too. Most part of Indonesia remains partially active and the number of islands along with the sizes and shapes continue to be born with each earthquake or tidal wave.
