Indonesia History Timeline

The geology of Indonesia was found from 2.588 million to 12000 years BP, when the geological formation of Indonesia took place. At first it appeared to be linked to the mainland of Asia and the first settlers there were the Java-Man more than 2 million to 500,000 years ago.

The early society of humans were believed to be found in parts of highlands of Malay and the Philippines and by 3,000 BCE Austronesian people have said to have reached the island and started settling there. In 200 BCE the Hindu kingdom of Jawa Dwipa has been believed to be in existence in Sumatra and Java.

The early history of Indonesia dates back to the 5th century where stone inscriptions denote the existence of a King called Purnavarman of Tarumanagara. In the CE of 700s, trade links were established and rice cultivation took place along with the formation of the Sanjaya dynasty which has been ascertained by the inscriptions made in the Canggal. From the thirteenth century there were a whole lot of Hindu kings who ruled over Indonesia until the fifteenth century when Islam became a dominant religion.

During the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries westerners used the spice-rich islands to monopolize them and ruled over the people. However, once they became bankrupt in the early 1800s Ethical policies were founded and after the World War l people began to see the light of an independent nation. All through the mid-1900s the President Sukarno hogged the limelight with all his deeds and misdeeds until his death in 1970. He was succeeded by Suharto until his death in 2008. Though Islam is the most prominent religion in Indonesia there are other religions that are active and people here live a life that is most unpredictable with the numerous shoot-outs and bombings; life still goes on.
