Exchange Rate For Thailand

Until the year 1925, the currency of Thailand was known as 'tical'. The present form of currency 'baht' was recognized in the 19th century. Both these forms of currency were actually units of weight. The Bank of Thailand holds the power to issue currency in the nation.


Baht or THB is symbolized by ฿ and one baht consists of 100 satang. The coins are available in the denominations of ฿10, 5, 1 and 50 and 25 satang, wherein the copper coins hold the value of 25 and 50 satang and the silver coins are of 1, 5 and 10 baht. Notes are seen in the denominations of ฿1,000, 500, 100, 50, 20 and 10.

Tourists carrying foreign currency can exchange the same at various places that include banks, hotels and exchange bureaus. While the normal working hours of most banks are 0830 to1530 hours from Mondays to Fridays, the exchange bureaus centered in usually the larger towns are open from 0800 to 2000 hours. Currency beyond ฿500 is difficult to exchange in remote places of the country.

The primary exchange rate indicators of currency are as follows:

1.00 GBP = 49.38 THB
1.00 USD = 32.33 THB
1.00 EUR = 43.89 THB.

Some of the exchange rates with respect to other countries include 1 Australian Dollar is equal to 29.6 THB, 1 Canadian Dollar is equal to 32.01 THB, 1 Chinese Yuan is equal to 4.7 THB, 1 Indian Rupee is equal to 0.72 THB and 1 Russian Ruble is equal to 1.1 THB. In order to avoid any complications arising from exchange of currency, it may be prudent to carry traveler’s checks in US Dollars, Euros or Pounds Sterling. Credit cards from the American Express, MasterCard and Visa are also acceptable all over the country, and the ATMs are also easily accessible.
