Where Is The Vietnam Memorial Located ?
The Vietnam War is perhaps one of the biggest wars in American history that the country fought. It was extremely difficult for the United States at that time as there was political unrest in the form of racial discrimination at its peak and also an external war to fight. Several soldiers lost their lives during the war, and many sons who left their home country never came back home. |
One of the biggest disadvantages that the United States had at that time was the lack of knowledge of the terrain. They underestimated the country’s geography and the advanced flying machines were of no use in the war. However, much later after the war a Vietnam War Memorial was built to commemorate the soldiers who lost their lives in the war.
The Vietnam War memorial is located right between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. It was built in the year 1982. This was privately financed monument. It was inaugurated by President Ronald Reagan on November 11th of 1984. He also signed a document that transferred the memorial to the United States Park Service.
The Memorial is a V shaped structure and has two polished granite walls. The Granite walls have the names of more than fifty thousand soldiers, including men and women written on it.
The Vietnam Memorial is a great structure which reveals the history of a disturbed past. The memorial was designed by Maya Ying Lin, who was a student from Yale school of Architecture.
