It is best to take into account aspects of safety while driving in fog because the road conditions can become very dangerous once the fog creeps in. When driving in fog, make sure that your headlights are always turned on. This means turning on the lights but refraining from using high beam as this will improve the visibility and other drivers will also be able to see you.
Make sure that your car's windshield is free from dew, which tends to collect because of foggy conditions. This means that you will have to make sure that the car wipers, air conditioner and defroster are working well.
Many advocates of safety while driving in fog will tell that it is best to have your window rolled down to help you hear sounds, including danger sounds. As your visibility is limited because of fog, hearing sounds early will allow you to slow down or stop without getting into any trouble or accident.
Make sure that you do not drive fast. Instead concentrate on driving slowly and when you have to use the brakes, press them lightly. Remember, judging perception will be impaired in foggy conditions and it is best to drive slow as it will give you ample time to react in case of any danger.
If the fog gets too thick and you are uncomfortable driving, it is best to pull over at the side of the road and switch on your hazard lights. This way, oncoming vehicles will be able to see the blinking of the lights.
