What Is The Distance Of The Tour De France ?
Tour De France is the world's most prestigious and also the most difficult bicycle race held in France. It is a bicycle marathon that is held over duration of 20 days in France in July every year. The race has 20 professional teams and each team has nine riders. They together have to cover a distance of 3600 kilometers or 2235 miles. |
The terrain is mostly mountainous and also flat. Most of the distance that needs to be covered is within France and some parts of Belgium, Italy, Germany and Spain. Every stage of the race is timed for all individual teams. The team or the rider with the lowest aggregate time is the winner. This race was first held in 1903 by Henri Desgrange. He was a journalist and French cyclist. Ever since, the race was held every year except during the time of the World Wars.
The cyclist who has the lowest accumulative time is awarded the Yellow Jersey. The color of the paper on which the L’Auto is awarded is Yellow. There are three other kinds of Jerseys awarded during the race. A polka dotted jersey is given to a person who averages the lowest time for covering mountainous regions. That person is also given the title of the King of the Mountains. The White Jersey is given to a rider who is below 25 years and does the lowest average time. The riders are allowed to change their bicycles. Usually they use three types of bicycles, one is light weight, one for mountainous areas, and one for flat road.
