What Language Is Spoken In Amsterdam ?

The Netherlands is the most thickly populated country in the world given the amount of land that is available. Close to 80 percent of the country's population comprises of Caucasian Dutch. Amsterdam is the financial capital of the Netherlands, and also the largest city of that country.

The main or the official language of Amsterdam is Dutch, which is also called Netherlandish. It is the mother tongue of more than 21 million people. Apart from this, the children are also taught English in the schools. Hence, English is another language that is commonly spoken here. These two languages are not all. Some people also speak German (since this is spoken similarly to Dutch) and another language that you can hear being spoken is French.

One more language called the Frisian is spoken in Friesland, which is in the northern part of Netherlands. However, this language may not be very common in Amsterdam. The Muslims also speak Turkish or Arabic. Since the population mainly comprises of Catholics, Dutch and English are the more common languages.

Those who are familiar with Dutch language may observe that there are many differences that can be found between the written script and the spoken language.

Tourists traveling to Amsterdam may not have problems in communicating with the people there because the global language English is understood in the Netherlands, and you may not need to learn specific language while traveling to Amsterdam. This is one of the reasons why people love to go to the city of Amsterdam since there are no language issues there and they can easily move on their own without an interpreter.
