Fun Facts Zurich Switzerland

Switzerland is a country famous all over the world for its chocolates, banking and watches. Its commercial capital, Zurich, is located near Lake Zurich, northeast of the capital city of Bern. It is the most densely inhabited city in Switzerland, with a population of one and a quarter million.

It is recognized to offer its people one of the best qualities of lives amongst all the cities of the world. The first thing that strikes anyone about Zurich is the Street Parade. This event full of fun and excitement generally takes place on the second Saturday of August. It is referred to as the demonstration of love, peace, freedom and tolerance. This parade commenced in the year 1992 with just 1000 participants. Today this event known as the ‘largest party in Europe’ has participants to the counting of thousands, belonging to varied backgrounds proceeding along the Lake Zurich and dancing to electronic music in harmony. It is considered to be the second most attended techno music parade in Europe. The parade is a meeting ground for music fans drawn to the event in tremendous numbers.

Zurich is extremely prominent for its nightlife as well. There is a wide range of entertainment in the form of clubs, bars, restaurants, espresso-bars and cinemas. The sex shops and red light district of Zurich are also quite a rage. There is one restaurant for every 180 inhabitants in the city.

Zurich is also an important center for knowledge and research. One of the biggest feathers in its cap is Albert Einstein, who not only studied at the University of Zurich but was also part of the faculty as a professor. Although the expenditure of education at the University of Zurich is only 1,200 dollars, it is quite a task to procure admission. A very peculiar aspect about the education system is that the schools for children in Zurich do not function on Wednesdays.

A very interesting fact about the city is that 90 percent of residents actually live in rented places. The inhabitants do not believe in buying a place of their own. The famous pop star Tina Turner lives in a surrounding suburb of Zurich.
