The atmosphere of festivity surrounds Zurich throughout the year. Many traditional Swiss festivals, lively events, concerts and carnivals are organized in the city. The Hallenstadion, with a capacity of 13,000 people, is the venue for most of the festivals, concerts, and other events. |

The Zürich Festival is a much awaited annual event that is generally scheduled in the months of June and July. The highlights include art, opera, drama, concerts and dance.
A celebration of Latin-American music and culture is Caliente. This event is held every year in July with the objective of collecting funds for the Amazon region. Another multi-cultural event held in the old town of Zurich is the Dörfli-Fäscht. This festival in August showcases music, culinary and artistic talents. The Street Parade is marked as one of the largest events in Europe. Jubilation with electronic and techno music as part of the parade sets the mood from early afternoon till midnight.
A real fun event for children is the Swiss Teddy Festival. Children freak out on seeing hundreds of teddy bears at exhibitions. Workshops and interactive activities are also organized. Knabenschiessen is another avenue for children’s participation. This is one of the oldest festivals in Switzerland, wherein thousands of boys and girls in the age group of 12 to 16 participate in a marksmanship competition. The winner is acclaimed with the title of ‘King of the Marksmen’. Families can enjoy cinema through the Zürich Film Festival that takes place for a span of 11 days in September and October. It extends a platform to new film makers to showcase their work.
Cultural events are not the only aspects of enjoyment in the city. The Zürich Limmat Swimming Race offers an opportunity to professional and amateur swimmers to show their swimming skills. The stretch of 2 km starts from the Stadthausquai and ends at the Oberer Letten river bath.
Zürich Silvesterlauf signifies a traditional race with thousands of participants covering a distance of 1.4 km to 9.8 km in the old town of Zürich, along the Bahnhofstrasse. Those interested in world athletics can witness athletics meets, part of the Golden League Athletics series with renowned athletes from different parts of the world at the Letzigrund Stadium.
