Where Is The Gaza Strip Located ?

It is surrounded by Israel on the southwest and Egypt on the northeast. This province derives its name from Gaza, which happens to be its main and most populous city.This coastal strip stretches over 25 miles in length. The width of this strip varies between 4 miles to 7.5 miles across the coast. The total land area covered by this strip is 139 square miles.
The Gaza strip is not globally accepted as part of any independent country but is recognized as part of Palestinian territories. Palestine is not officially recognized as a sovereign country.
The Gaza Strip has been in the centre of conflict and dispute. It has, for most part of the century, been occupied by various empires and countries, including Ottoman Empire, British and Egypt. Following the 6 days war in June 1967, it was occupied by Israel. Although, Israel unilaterally disengaged from the city of Gaza, in Gaza strip, in the year 2005, it is believed globally that it continues to exercise military control over the airspace, land borders, territorial waters of this region. However, presently, the region is said to be controlled by Hamas, an Islamic Resistance organization, that won the Palestinian Elections in the year 2006. Although, not democratically elected, Hamas have taken over the Gaza strip since July 2007. Nevertheless, the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip has been isolated by the international community.
The Gaza strip is inhabited by over 1.5 million Palestinians, majority of whom are Sunni Muslims and remaining are Christians.
