Today, Iran is quite a hot tourist destination with people from all over the world wanting to visit this country. For some the fascination is the ancient cultural heritage in the country, for others it is curiosity to see how the modern and the conservative societies blend together and work in tandem.

With all the upheaval in the Middle East, people are still flocking to Iran to enjoy its beautiful historical monuments, rich culture and mouthwatering cuisine. If you intend traveling to the country, here are some tips.

Tips for Traveling in Iran:

The climate in Iran is dry, but it has a sub-tropical climate along the Caspian Sea coast. So, depending on where you intend holidaying, take weather-appropriate clothing and attire.

Before leaving your home country, contact the Iranian embassy about visa requirements. There are some nationals who can get a one week visa on arrival at the two international airports located in Tehran. However, you may not be part of those countries. So, rather than risk it, it is best to get your visa well before you depart. According to Iranian embassies, tourists should apply for visas 3 months prior to their intended departure to Iran.

The one week long visa given on arrival at airports cost around $50. In case you want to make a stop in Iran while traveling to South Asia from Europe, you can always apply for a transit visa.

In case you want to extend your visa to see all the beautiful sites of the country, you can do so by filling out and submitting your application for visa extension to the Aliens Affairs Bureau in Tehran.
