According to Islamic laws and traditions, pork is not available in the country.Rice is a staple diet for the Kuwaitis and is part of most Kuwaiti dishes. Various dishes of rice can range from the simple steamed rice to rice dishes with a complex blend of meat, chicken or fish and various types of vegetables. Salads are an integral part of the Kuwaiti cuisine. Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and radishes, impregnated with the juice of lemon and salt make for an appetizing salad.
The Arabs are credited to have played a significant role in establishing spice trade routes. This is a reason why various spices are essentially used and hence are integral to the Kuwaiti cuisine. A variety of spices, from cardamom, cumin, coriander cinnamon, cloves to nutmeg, paprika, and pepper are used to add flavor and aroma to the various dishes.
Machboos is the national dish of Kuwait. It is essentially an aromatic rice dish with chicken or meat placed over it or mixed with it.
The other popular dish of the Kuwaiti cuisine includes Gabboot, which is flour dumplings stuffed with meat stew. A popular evening snack is Ghuraiba. This is a crisp cookie, and it is served with the famous Arabic coffee.
