United Arab Emirates Culture
The United Arab Emirates, also known as the UAE, is rich in cultural diversity owing to the presence of so many guest workers drawn from the Indian subcontinent and who contribute to the diversity and plurality of the culture. |
The native inhabitants practice a culture that is a cross between Islam and Bedouin culture and hence these twin influences are apparent on the culture of the native citizens. As mentioned above, because of the presence of millions of guest workers, the culture of the UAE becomes diverse and cosmopolitan. Among the Gulf States, the UAE is reputed to have the most open society and welcomes people from all kinds of cultures and is hospitable towards them. However, there have been critics who charge the UAE with practicing a class based culture and this criticism is mainly due to the living conditions of the workers brought from other countries.
The UAE is supposed to be more liberal than its neighbors and this goes a long way in explaining why the Dubai shopping festival is such a big hit among shoppers worldwide. Apart from that, the UAE also has attractions that can accommodate the iterant travelers. These are the so-called amusement parks and the indoor ski resort that replicate the natural conditions for skiing and can be used as a getaway from the hectic urban life. The Emiratis are known to be hospitable and one can find places of worship other than mosques thanks to the liberal and tolerant culture that is the hallmark of the UAE as opposed to the other states in the Arabian Peninsula.
