What Are The United Arab Emirates ?
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a sovereign state that is made up of partly self-governing or autonomous states or regions unified by the central government. |
This federation of seven states has been created in the year 1971 after gaining independence from the British rule. It has been created by organizing a faction of Arabic-speaking tribes inhabiting the Arabian Peninsula, along the coast of Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Each of these states is an autonomous emirate, as they are ruled by an independent ruler. As per the provisions of the constitution drafted in 1971, each emirate has been given authoritative powers that include authority over the natural resources like the oil and gas and its revenues.
The seven emirates forming the federation are Abu Dhabi, its capital city, Dubai, Ras al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Qaiwain and Fujairah.
The UAE is presided over by the Congress of Rulers from the seven emirates. This council reserves the right to appoint the prime minister and also the cabinet. The head of the state will be the President of the United Arab Emirates. The Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates heads the government and also looks after most prominent portfolios in the cabinet, ranging from foreign affairs, issues related to defense and security and infrastructure. Those responsibilities that are not assigned to the Prime-Minister are assigned to the emirates of the independent states.
The UAE has the sixth largest reserves of oil in the world, which has resulted in it becoming one of the most developed economies among Middle Eastern countries.
