One of the most featured current events of the region is the annual Alaska State Fair, to be held from August 26 to September 6 this year. This fair is organized every year during the fall season and attracts thousands of people from different countries across the globe.
It showcases the panoramic beauty and distinctiveness of the continent and is known worldwide for its display of record-setting flower gardens and gigantic vegetables. The Fair Grounds are located in fertile valley of Matanuska-Susitna, right at the center of the scenic Chugach Mountains.
Other events that are presently going on in Alaska include the Kenai Peninsula State Fair (August 20 – August 23, 2010) and the Sandhill Crane Festival of the Tanana Valley (August 22, 2010). The former is known for music acts, fireworks, food booths, rodeo, flower crafts, and vegetable and fruit displays. The latter, on other hand, celebrates the return of cranes on the continent with music, walks, crafts, and talks.
Fun events scheduled for the rest of the year include the International Dog Sled Symposium, to be held from October 8, 2010 to October 10, 2010; the Alaska Bald Eagle Festival, to be celebrated from November 11 to November 15; the ‘Christmas Comes to Kenai’ Festival on November 27, 2010; the Winter Wonderland Walk and the Festival of Lights on December 3; the two-day Bidarki Bazaar on December 3 and 4; Colony Christmas Celebrations from December 10 to December 12; and the Winter Solstice Celebrations on December 21, 2010.
