Colorado River, located at the southwestern part of the US, and nourishing a large part of the arid and high plateau between the Sierra Nevada and the Rocky Mountains, is a huge stream of water. In answer to this question, it is important to put light on the past years as it is associated with the past. Suring the year 1540, Spaniards had entered Arizona and they discovered Colorado. Hernando de Alarcon who was basically co-operating with F. V. de Coronado intended to explore the Gulf of California with the help of their ships. They thus sailed up the lower river. Melchior Diaz marched along the Gulf shores and reached up to the river whereas Captain Garcia Lopez was able to discover the Grand Canyon as he was passing through Zuni. But it was unfortunate on his part that he was unable descending its walls.
In the year 1604, Juan de Onate came up from New Mexico crossing the Arizona and was successful descending the Santa Maria, Gulf and Bill Williams. But great portions of this river were still not known till 1869. In the year 1867, James White who was a miner claimed making a way to the Grand Canyon but his story was not believed by the people. Then in the year 1869 as well as in various later expeditions, Major J. W. Powell was successful accomplishing the feat. Several explorations as well as scientific studies have been conducted since then.
