Facts On Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is situated on the Big Island. This park actually gets credited for being the most famous and active one. The island is on an expansion spree but you can certainly go there at any point of time to witness the National park and the two major volcanoes, namely Mauna Loa and Kilauea.

Normally open on all days, its entry fee is normally $10 per day per vehicle and $5 per person. The Park also houses three compounds, one hotel, and a museum. You can also take accommodation at Kulanaokuaiki, Namakani Paio, which does not offer reservations in advance.

The experience of these volcanoes can only be felt when you visit this place. The process begins initially with a deep rumble, followed by slow disturbing sounds and sudden quakes or cracking, which is just the trailer. After a few hours, you might sense the fissure openings and emitting hot lava at a high speed with smoke gushing towards the sky. This might again continue for hours together and all you can smell is sulfur. It is simply amazing to watch nature’s display of extraordinary beauty and fire. There are five active volcanoes and two of them are in this park. They look super impressive, yet scary. The Mauna Loa rises nearly 13,677 ft from the Pacific Ocean and is just shorter than Mauna Kea. It is also higher than Mt. Everest and is hundred times stronger than Mt. Rainier. The eruptions look scary but actually they are quite harmless, which is why it attracts so many visitors. However, the lava can easily destroy vegetation and animals. You are allowed to click pictures, but do get the necessary details that would help you to plan your day. Previously, Hawaiians believed that the volcanoes were caused by Gods and demigods and hence they always cherished these mountains. Legend says that Pele, who was considered as the Goddess of fire, travels to earth and the moment she keeps her foot on the ground, the portion of earth under her feet trembles and erupt fire. Some geologists do believe in this myth, while scientists have their own theories.
