Illinois is considered to be the fifth highest populated state in the US. As far as the Midwest region is concerned, it is the highest populated state however 65 percent of its residents are concentrated at Chicago, while other areas of the state is either rural or has an ambiance of a small town. This state has a very strong economic base and is a very important transportation center. During the 1820s, people from Kentucky began coming to this place and this place was recognized as a state in the year 1818. Chicago was founded during the year 1830. Railroads further increased the population of Illinois in the beginning. During the 1900, the industrial jobs started attracting people from Southern as well as Eastern Europe which in turn raised the overall population of this state. Then the migration of African Americans too helped them form their own community, These people had come from rural south, towards Chicago.
At present there are several communities and people from various parts of the world living here. This place has played a vital role in the Latter Day Saint movement in its beginning and became to be known as the gathering place for a very long time period during the nineteenth century. The biggest religious groups that are found at present in this place would include the Protestants and the Catholics.
