Indiana is a state situated in the Midwestern US and in the region of the Great Lakes. It is the thirty-eighth largest state and sixteenth most populated state of the US, with about 6.3 million people here. It was officially made a state on 11th December 1816. Indianapolis was then made its capital city. Not only is Indianapolis the largest city in the state, it also ranks second in the list of largest capitals of all states. |
Indiana has one of the largest waterfront measuring 41 miles in length in Lake Michigan. This place is the greatest industrial centers of the world with one of the largest production of oil products, steel and iron. Additional products include recreational vehicles, automobiles accessories and spare parts, bus and truck bodies, farm equipment, fabricated structural steel and aircraft engines. This is the reason for its diverse economy, each year contributing about hundreds of billions of dollars in the country’s total economy.
Indiana hosts the very famous Indy 500 and Brickyard races that draw thousands of spectators each year. One of the biggest caves of the US, the Wyandotte Caves, is located in this state, in Crawford County. Interestingly, the people living in the state are called Hoosiers. The reason behind it is still a mystery. The main crop of this state is corn, with over half of the cultivable lands dedicated solely to it. The state gets all the irrigational water from the river of Mississippi, the main one being Wabash river. Apart from being the longest free flowing river of the eastern part of the region, it is also the official river of Indiana. These facts can be used to form a general idea about Indiana.
There is, of course, more to Indiana for which one can refer the official website of the state.
