It is a small state on the northern coast of South America. Guiana was under the rule of many invaders. They ruled over Guyana for a number of years. Spanish, French, Dutch, British, they all ruled over Guyana for so many long years. And only when Guyanese sought independence from their rulers, Guiana came to be known as the co-operative republic of Guiana as it formed republic form of government.Historically the region known as Guiana was the large shield of landmass. It was in the late 17th or early 18th century that out of this landmass five sub-regions were carved. The invaders, they occupied the portion of the landmass ad the five sub-regions were named were Spanish Guiana, Portuguese Guiana, British Guiana, Dutch Guiana, and French Guiana. They were carved out in different years as the invaders found.
Modern Guyana is surrounded by Suriname, Brazil, Venezuela and Atlantic Ocean. Guyana is divisible into five natural regions. They are narrow and fertile marshy plain, a white sand belt, the dense rain forests and the grassy savannah and the larger interior highlands.
Fertile marshy plain lie along the Atlantic coast, whereas the white sand belt is the place where most of the Guyana’s mineral deposits are found. Rain forests lie in the middle of the country and the grassy Savannah in the southern west of Guiana. The larger interior highlands are a place where mountains rise to the Brazilian border.
