Paraguay Food

The culture of Paraguay is influenced by Spanish and Guarani cultures. And, as a result Paraguay food is a blend of both these cultures.Besides being influenced by Guarani and Spanish cultures, Paraguay food also has some elements of French and Italian cuisines. Manioc and corn are used quite frequently in Paraguayan cooking, and so also beef, pork, lamb and chicken. The fact that Paraguay does not have a coastline means that the country usually does not pay too much attention to seafood and fish, other than those caught from the river.
Paraguay food has some recipes that are favorites among the people. For instance, sopa Paraguaya is a soup, which is not really a soup. It is a bun made from cornmeal and cheese, and you are meant to eat with a beef dish or with arroz con pollo, which is rice with chicken. This is the main course. The starter is invariably a soup like zucchini soup, which is known as dulce de leche.
In the afternoons, it is quite common to see Paraguayans drinking yerba mate tea. The tea is prepared by infusing yerba mate leaves in hot water. However, the water is not boiled, or the infusion will develop a bitter taste. The tea is meant to be had from a special gourd with the aid of a metal straw.
In the evenings, Paraguayans have a light supper consisting of beef soup.
Some famous Paraguay food are Bori Bori, which is a soup made up of corn and cheese; Bife Koygua and Puchero are meat dishes usually prepared from chicken, pork or lamb; and Mbeyu is an omelet made from cheese and cassava starch.
