US Embassy In Peru

The US government has had diplomatic relations with Peru right from 1826.


However, the US embassy was established only 1920 when the Congress elevated the status to embassy level between the two countries. Today, the US Embassy in Peru, which is located in Lima, oversees all diplomatic and consular related activities pertaining to the country.The main aim of the US Embassy in Peru is to further cooperation and understanding between the US and Peru. Also, it aims to enhance commercial relations and improve bilateral relations through numerous economic and cultural activities.

Through its embassy, the US government has been working with the Peruvian government to resolve some of the following issues:

  • Respecting human rights
  • Encouraging free trade
  • Reducing the production and trafficking of illegal drugs
  • Alleviating poverty
  • Strengthening democratic institutions within Peru

In addition, the US Embassy in Peru uses many cultural and informational programs to ensure that people of Peru have a better understanding of the US as a whole, the US society, and the working of the US government.

The US embassy in Peru works from Mondays through Friday from 8 am to 11.30 am. It is closed on US holidays as well as Peruvian holidays. The US citizens living in Peru can contact the embassy either in person or through telephone services. Telephone services for non-emergency inquiries by US citizens is available from Mondays through Thursday from 2.30 pm to 4 pm. Usually there is a duty officer available 24 hours a day, and a US citizen can contact the officer via telephone in case of an emergency.
