When Did Venezuela Gain Independence ?

Before Columbus explored the country, Carib and Arawak Indians were sharing this land.Stilted houses developed over the Lake Maracaibo were similar to buildings in Venice, Italy. As a result, an expressive name, which was a brain child of Alonso de Ojeda was given. This name was Little Venice, or Venezuela.
Few most important means of revenue generation were being dominated by Spaniards. Cacao, tobacco, and coffee were some raw materials that attracted the Spanish. Western South America was occupied by the Spanish because they wanted access to region's mineral resources.
Finally, in the year 1821, after the Venezuelans waged numerous battles and wars against the Spanish for a period of 10 years, the country gained its independence. This was possible due to the combined efforts of students and revolutionaries, who were led by Simón Bolívar and Francisco Miranda. In fact, Simon Bolivar along with Jose de San Martin are credited with leading a pincer movement that helped to liberate most of the countries in southern and northern South America from the Spanish colonial rule.
However, even after Venezuela attained its independence in 1821, many regions still had discords and problems. But as time passed, the new government brought about some semblance of peace and harmony. On getting its independence, Venezuela became a part of the Gran Colombia, which included other nations like Colombia and Ecuador. However, later these nations seceded from the Gran Colombia to form their own independent countries.
