Avoiding Jetlag

          If you have ever traveled by air, you will know how jetlag feels. It occurs due to certain hormonal changes in your body, altering your body’s circadian rhythm.            Start adjusting you bedtime and mealtimes gradually before you leave. This process should begin about a week before your flight. Initially, it will be a little difficult. But your body will soon adjust to the changed rhythm. On the day of departure, do not eat anything heavy. On the flight, drink lots of liquids, like water and natural juice. Jetlag usually worsens if you are dehydrated. However, any alcoholic drinks or caffeine-containing drinks also contribute to dehydration. They are best avoided. Also, avoid taking any sleeping pills on the flight. If possible, walk down the aisles of the plane. Exercise will stimulate blood supply to your limbs.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Try to sleep until the breakfast time of your flight. To ensure that you are comfortable, reserve your seat in advance. Window seats are useful, since you have a wall to support your head on. Also, your neighbor will not wake you up if he wants to go to the toilet. Keep your seat belts tied during the flight. This way, the attendants will not have to wake you up if they want you to tie your seat belt during the flight. Scan the cabin for any empty seats. If there is a row of empty seats, don’t hesitate to lie down.  A good snooze will definitely reduce the amount of jetlag.
