Where Is US Government Passport Office ?

So, you are planning your first international trip? However, without a passport you will not be able to go abroad. That is why you need to know where the US government passport office is.

The US passport is issued by the US Department of State. This is the only government office that has the authority to issue passports to US citizens. The department has identified post offices, municipal government offices, public libraries, clerks of court, counties and townships to accept passport applications on behalf of the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs, Office of Passport Services. In order to submit a passport application, you will have to figure out which is your nearest passport application center and apply for a passport there.

All first time applicants have to apply for a passport in person. This means that you will have go to your passport application center and fill out Form DS-11 and submit it with a proof of your US citizenship, Social Security Number, photo identity, and 2 colored photographs of 2X2 inches. You will also have to pay the applicable fee for getting a passport. Remember not to sign on the form until the accepting authority asks you to do so.

The fees for applying for a passport keep changing. Presently it is $100 for 16 years and older and $85 for children under the age of 16. The usual time frame to process a passport is 3 weeks from the time of receiving the application. However, due to unforeseen circumstances like problems with the application or submitted documents can increase the processing time. Most people get their passports within 6 weeks of applying.
