However, in the Philippines, nationals belonging to certain countries do not need visa while there are others who need visa. Nationals of the United States of America do not need a visa for a minimum stay period not exceeding 21 days.
If your stay is being extended and you need to stay for a longer period than 21 days, you need to take prior permission from the Philippines foreign office. The stay period can be extended to a maximum of 38 days without a visa. In this case the total stay period a person can get is 59 days.
However, the exception to this rule is that the stay period is extended for visiting only major tourist places and cities. Beyond this period everyone has to apply for a visa at the Philippines embassy. You will have to pay the current visa fee along with an additional fee for express lane charges. The express lane ensures that you get your passport back within 24 hours after getting a visa. If you need a visa extension for 3 to 4 months, then it is only possible at the Manila or the Cebu city offices because these are the major cities in the Philippines. However, staying for a longer period than 6 months becomes a bit difficult as you might need bureaucratic help to do that. Beyond the period of 6 months you would need to secure a temporary residence status which requires investigation and authorization from the Philippines government.
